Epic Games Makes a Bold Move
Epic Games has unveiled significant changes to its Fortnite Battle Pass structure, marking a historic moment as the price for the standard pass will increase for the first time ever. This update will take effect in just a few weeks, specifically on December 1.
Details of the Price Increase
In a recent announcement on its website, Epic Games outlined various adjustments, including enhancements for Fortnite Crew subscribers. However, the most notable change that will impact the majority of players is the increase in the Battle Pass cost. Previously priced at 950 V-Bucks, the standard Battle Pass will now be available for 1,000 V-Bucks—a modest increase of 50 V-Bucks.
What This Means for Players
While the price hike is slight, it is significant as it marks the first change to the Battle Pass pricing since its inception. Importantly, Epic Games has confirmed that the real-world cost of purchasing V-Bucks will remain the same. Currently, 1,000 V-Bucks can be acquired for $8.99. Players can also continue to earn V-Bucks by achieving specific levels within the Battle Pass. To offset concerns about the price increase, Epic is reducing the price of the 25 Battle Pass Reward Bundle from 1,850 to 1,800 V-Bucks.
Exciting New Features Coming Soon
These adjustments arrive just ahead of the highly anticipated launch of “Fortnite OG: Chapter 1 – Season 1” on December 6. To enhance the value of the Fortnite Crew subscription, which is currently priced at $12.99, Epic is adding more bonuses. This bundle already includes the standard Battle Pass, 1,000 V-Bucks, and monthly Crew Pack outfits. Starting December 1, subscribers will also receive a Music Pass and LEGO Pass at no additional cost.
Benefits of the Fortnite Crew Subscription
The updated Crew subscription offers players an enticing reason to remain engaged within Epic’s gaming ecosystem. Notably, experience points (XP) earned in any associated games will contribute to the progression of all active battle passes. Moreover, Crew subscribers will gain access to future passes, including the upcoming Fortnite OG Pass, which has yet to be detailed.
Key Changes for New Subscribers
It’s essential for potential new subscribers to be aware of a critical change. Those who sign up for the Fortnite Crew subscription after December 1 will not be able to redeem premium rewards from the passes once their subscription lapses. This means that if a new member cancels their subscription shortly after joining, they will only receive rewards for the duration of their current billing cycle. Existing subscribers, however, will continue to enjoy rewards for the Battle Pass as long as it remains active, even after the new changes are implemented.
Looking Ahead
Epic Games is making strategic moves as it prepares to launch the nostalgia-driven Fortnite OG mode. Currently, the game is in Chapter 5: Season 5, which will conclude with the start of Chapter 6: Season 1 next month. While details about the upcoming chapter remain under wraps, fans can look forward to more exciting content. In the meantime, check out the newly released Fortnite-themed PlayStation 5 DualSense controller for a fresh gaming experience.
