Exciting Collaboration Announced
Poland-based game development studio People Can Fly has been confirmed as the co-developer for the highly anticipated Gears of War: E-Day, collaborating alongside The Coalition. This partnership marks a significant milestone in the franchise’s evolution, promising to deliver an exhilarating gaming experience.
A Nostalgic Return to Gears of War
In a recent press release, People Can Fly expressed their enthusiasm about returning to the Gears of War universe. The studio, known for its previous work on Gears of War: Judgment and contributions to Gears of War 1-3, stated, “We are honored to return to the world of Gears of War. Collaborating on the next chapter of this legendary saga is both a privilege and an exciting opportunity to build upon the intense, visceral action and rich storytelling that fans have come to love.”
Unveiling Gears of War: E-Day
Gears of War: E-Day was initially announced during last year’s Xbox Showcase and is set to serve as a prequel to the original trilogy. Players will experience the story through the eyes of younger versions of beloved characters, including Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago. Notably, the original voice actors will reprise their roles, adding an authentic touch to the narrative.
Exploring the Origins of the Locust Invasion
The game will delve into the origins of the Locust invasion on Emergence Day. In an interview with IGN, Brand Director Nicole Fawcette and Creative Director Matt Searcy emphasized the importance of incorporating horror elements, reminiscent of the original trilogy. “What if the ground opened up and monsters came out? It’s set on a fictional planet, but there are very human reactions and stories we get to tell,” Searcy explained. “To do that, we need to be able to tell a story that feels like a horror story.”
People Can Fly: A Brief History
Founded in 2002, People Can Fly gained recognition for their work on titles like Bulletstorm and Painkiller. After being acquired by Epic Games in 2007 and temporarily rebranded as Epic Games Poland, the studio eventually returned to its independent roots, maintaining its original name and logo.
Looking Ahead
Gears of War: E-Day marks the next major project for People Can Fly following the successful launch of Outriders in 2021. This collaboration hints at a thrilling new direction for the franchise, and fans can look forward to an op-ed discussing the need for Gears of War to reclaim its blockbuster status with the release of E-Day.
